Check whether a scan is even accepted
Universities and credential evaluators frequently require an official transcript sent directly by the issuing school, or one that arrives in an unopened sealed envelope. Opening that envelope to scan it can invalidate it. Confirm the requirement first — an unofficial copy for your own records is a different job from an official submission.

Capture every page, including the key
The grading scale, credit system explanation, and legend are usually printed on the reverse or on a final page, and evaluators need them to interpret the grades. Scan them along with the grade pages, in order, in one session.

Light the security paper evenly
Transcript stock is often tinted, watermarked, or printed with an anti-copy pantograph. Uneven light makes the background patchy and can make a faint pattern read as smudging. Diffuse light across the whole sheet, and shoot straight down.

Protect the table structure when editing
Grade tables have thin rules and small type, and aggressive Brightness & contrast is what breaks them — rules vanish and a row of grades starts floating without alignment. Adjust lightly, then use Crop & perspective fix to square the page and Rotate for anything landscape.
